-Why it’s worth the time to discover and use your spiritual gift
-3 Steps for discovering our spiritual gifts
-Evaluating our service for God: Asking the SERVE questions.
Our Scripture is Romans 12:2-8
Psalm [84:10] says: “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” The writer of this Psalm knew that it was an honor and a privilege to be considered one of God’s servants.”
2 Things that help us to find fulfillment in serving God [3:36]
1) Serving with a ‘Big Picture’ perspective. (12:4-5)
2) Serving in the way God has planned for us to serve (12:6)
2 Ways God has equipped us so that we may serve effectively [07:14]
He has given us a measure of faith (:3)
The Faith we need to use the Gifts He has given us
He has given us one or more gifts (:6)
Spiritual Gifts – special abilities that God has given to each of us serve the Body of Christ in an effective way.
What is it like to discover and to use our Spiritual Gifts? [13:22]
It’s good, pleasing to God, and perfect (12:2)
Good. Your going to grow as a Christian (learn @ the gift, develop the gift) your going to be encouraging other Christians in ways you didn’t before – serving them effectively with the Gift that God has given you.
Pleasing. Because your going to be serving God with your life in the way that He has planned for you to serve Him. You’ll be giving Him the kind of offering with your life that He wants you to give.
Perfect. I think your going to enjoy the fact that you are doing what you’ve been made to do. When you think about all the different things you could be doing in life – this is perfect for you. It doesn’t mean you won’t get tired and need rest from serving, but you will find fulfill in serving God in this particular way – with your gift.
3 Steps for discovering our Spiritual Gifts [16:29]
Think Rightly About Ourselves.
Watch for needs in the Body of Christ as a whole, and each other.
Evaluate our service: Ask the SERVE Questions.
Below are some links to sites that give information about spiritual gifts. Some of these links also will allow you to navigate to a ‘spiritual gift test” or evaluation. These ‘tests’ can give you some insight into how you are currently serving.
I discovered my gifts and have been using my gifts without any help of a spiritual gift test. So, don’t feel like you have to use them. I think you can discover your gift through serving (That’s why I made the SERVE acronym I talked about in the podcast). However, I did take a couple of the tests that I found at the internet links before I recorded the podcast. And here are two things I discovered:
1) The tests revealed gifts that I already felt I had been given. So, I had discovered my gifts and was using them without taking a spiritual gift test that I found on the internet.
2) The test showed me other areas where I had already been demonstrating the use of certain spiritual gifts. Another words, if I was truly gifted in these areas, I was already demonstrating it without the knowledge that I might actually have those particular gifts.
What became obvious? You don’t need to know your spiritual gift to be able to use your spiritual gift. This makes sense because it’s the Holy Spirit that empowers the gifts in our lives. So, if you don’t know your gift don’t let that keep you from serving. Serve and discover your gifts along the way. Discovering your gift will help you to focus your time and serve more effectively.
Taking a ‘spiritual gift test’ can provide insights for you that you may not have noticed before.
